Name: Vis ('Force' or 'Power')

Gender: If pressed, identifies as male. But, given it is a construct of madness, it has no true physical gender.

Appearance:
Humanoid:

Personality: For a 'construct' of Madness, Vis is relatively coherent. This may have to do more with its intended purpose outside of increasing the spread and rate of infection of Madness. But, more on that later.

When not in a position that it has imperative commands to follow, Vis is probably as nonsensical as any other clown. Attempting to converse with it may cause it to, for fleeting moments, remain lucid and reply coherently, but generally it'll usually be spouting off plenty of madness and prone to just floating about blowing raspberries. However, if a person is of no interest to it, it will gleefully ignore them and drift aimlessly about, usually munching on his surroundings to try to get a taste of the world. If questioned about this, it will not only blow a raspberry but also puke up anything it has consumed (which aren't even digested, given his body, while human in appearance, is anything but human-like in nature) in their faces. It is prone to discussions about fish, chocolate, the state of the universe, the nature of ethics and morals, Fifty Shades of Grey and Vladmir Putin. Usually all at once, but that doesn't mean it goes on about them except when it does. Expect it to be repetitious, inverting syntax, and generally all-around off-putting if any form of communication is attempted with it, and it has no intention of responding in kind.

To those who pique it interest, either those who can resist it madness, have shown great strength of will, or seem bankrupt in morals, it will compose itself and speak in a coherent manner. Usually, wanting to understand the 'anomaly' and see if he or she is worthy of taking its power, and walking down the path of the Kishin. In these times, its voice changes from a high-pitched almost bubbly sarcastic tone to a moderately lower-pitched alluring melody, enticing those who lend him their with its sweetness of tone.

Unlike most other Clowns, its prime directive was to find 'anomalies' or people of interest and infect them with Madness. Not destroy their minds, mind you, but plant the seed of Madness within them and let it grow inside and with them, transforming them into worthwhile new carriers of Madness who would perpetuate the disease AND, if they failed to persist, cause much damage, devastation and death along its way to hell. BUT, after its master, the Kishin that gave it existence died, it has dialed back the directive with an intention of creating a New Kishin. A new master from which to serve and to also draw power from. Thus, unlike the usual Clown, it retains a sense of identity in spite of being a body of Madness, and has extreme self-preservation instincts.

History: Decades ago, when a man attained the power of a Demon God, he inadvertently began the creation of a Clown that would serve as its most loyal companion and possibly one of the oddest Clowns in existence. For starters, the Kishin made use of his newborn son as the base for the Clown in question. Or rather, the soul of his newborn son, born to him of a Witch, was used as the starting point for the creation of Vis. Yes, that poor woman who thought he loved her did not seem to realize he had simply wished to create a tainted soul for a most wretched experiment.

An experiment that took the glimmering soul and suffused it with Madness. His own, undiluted, concentrated Madness poured into the already broken and fragmented Soul: And gave rise to a small figure of Darkness, formless and seemingly weightless as what appeared to be wisps of Darkness bled off it and drifting about as some black fog. This was Vis's 'birth.' Whoever the soul that was used in this process was irrelevant, for he was born a Contagion of Madness. ... It ... was born a Contagion of Madness. A rare anomaly that had consumed the powers within the soul, shredding it into pieces and suffused it with Madness to give itself form and then later function. And oh function did it. For not too long after, it took upon a much more suitable guise, befitting a Clown, and soon the Madness that made up its body began to effuse the toxic insanity. But, that was only just the start.

Vis and his 'master' then proceeded on quite the voyage across lands, corrupting all those who came in their way, crushing those foolish enough to oppose them without strength. In time, as his master sought answers to some bizarre questions about the nature of Madness and the existence of his kind ... ... of its kind. IT sharpened its purposes as dictated by the Kishin, becoming one who infected others not simply to drive them mad, particularly with 'Terror' ... but to drive them mad with 'Power.' At some point, it gained a sense of identity: It was not like other Clowns, and there were nothing like it. They may all be composed of the Madness, but it alone could fulfill the role of contagion far better then they could for it could physically itself rather than simply Madness. No, Madness was contagious, but so was he! Pieces of himself, lurking within untainted souls, blackening their will and hearts, before finally driving them irreversibly insane!

He was not a natural Clown, but by no means was he an artificial Clown. He was a Creation, formed by controlled circumstances following the natural formation of Clowns, and so he would execute his master's orders faithfully.

At least until Master died, and it was at a loss of what to do. For it became apparent that his existence and power had come from Master. It ... it. Not he. It.

It needed a new master. It needed more madness. But, after Master died, its pieces spread about the world shriveled up and died for they could not be sustained by its power alone, not without master! So, what few pieces were left, he sought out and ... it sought out and reclaimed.

"WOULD YOU LIKE TO FALL INTO MADNESS?"

Abilities:
The Madness of POWER

  • Temptation (Level 1): If a person lacking an Anti-Madness Wavelength remains in close proximity to Vis, it will not only begin infecting them with its Madness Wavelength, but also harmonize and read the Wavelengths of their soul. Once five rounds in proximity of its wavelength has passed, it can peer into the patterns of the wavelength, slowly understanding the most dominant aspects of the person's activities. However, it cannot 'memorize' this information, and must go through the process again to read and understand it. (Grants: Knowledge of opposing character's key personality traits during duration of exposure. If target leaves the Clown's wavelength, all information is lost and forgotten.)
  • Quid Pro Quo: Offers a formal exchange or 'Contract' of Power. Requires consent of both character and the player behind the character. Grants "Madness Wavelength" to those who agree to the power, a two-round burst of increased physical capability (by suppressing reception to pain as well as accelerated healing to avoid lasting damage). After the empowerment is done, a mandatory four round wait is needed to execute again in the same topic/fight. There are two caveats:

    • First caveat - One who uses the power of the "Madness Wavelength" runs the risk of going insane, natch. However, such can only occur if the power is used excessively. To this end, a counter will be kept recording each usage. Excessive is determined as exceeding 30 usages, at which point the power may become rooted in their soul and they are at risk of deteriorating sanity. (Whether or not they fall into Madness is slowly up the player. Not the Clown)
    • Second caveat - While each usage of the power of Madness slowly empowers the Clown as well, though at a very slow rate, the Clown's end of the bargain puts a claim upon their soul in death. While the contract is bound, the Clown is capable of manifesting itself or the bound soul to itself when the Contract-holder dies. Effectively, the Soul will become the Clown's upon death.

Naturally, the Contracts are not permanent and can be broken. It requires one of the following: 1) The Clown dying, which then rescinds all active Contracts (obviously the simplest and most prevalent method). 2) The Clown voluntarily rescinding the contract (which it may do at a whim to whomever it feels like). 3) If one can find the Clown, approaching it and asking for the rescinding of the Contract is a viable method. But, as Vis isn't all well in the head, being an embodiment of Madness, there is no guarantee it will simply just remove the agreement. That said, if genuinely asked to, Vis will never deny the request outright. However if he does not simply break the Contract, it will require an item as compensation (usually an actual physical item) or it will require the bound party to prove their strength of Will.

If a contract is rescinded, the bound soul is released, and the elements of Madness the Clown has given disappear as well. However, any lingering Madness (from overusage, or natural) in the soul itself will stay as is.
  • Symbiosis: A much more convoluted and usually only single-party form of agreement between the Clown and a lone individual. Effectively the person of the agreement serves as a host for the Clown, who in turn (due to its partially artificial nature and self-control) places the individual's survival as a top priority. Such an individual would gain a healing ability on par with a Clown's regeneration in terms of thoroughness, but not speed (excluding vital organs, and assuming the wounds would not cause severe complications so as to kill someone) and a gradual increase in the power of their soul wavelengths. Vis, on the other hand, regains much of its old abilities and while the partnership is maintained, can also evolve and become stronger. The connection between the two can be broken, but requires both parties to voluntarily choose so. Forcibly breaking it would result in Vis's destruction and most likely the destruction of its host's Soul.

Madness Wavelength: Being an embodiment of Madness, its Wavelength will naturally drive people insane if in too close of a proximity for too long an exposure. That said, there are two limiting factors that make the Madness Wavelength not as fearsome as it would be capable of. First, is that Vis is an anomaly among Clowns, and is capable of restricting the overall distance its wavelength would propagate down to a four meter radius sphere around its person, to rein in its effects. Second, is due to being weakened, Vis's wavelength would only affect those who are unused and perhaps unaware of such a thing (Read: MOST NPCS), driving them mad VERY quickly, causing them to attack and kill anything and anyone not the Clown on sight to cause as much destruction as possible. Or the heads might explode, you never know.

Against those who are resilient to Madness or trained to combat against it, his Wavelength can cause discomfort when they encounter it(barring Anti-Madness wavelengths) but it is not powerful enough on its own to drive such individuals mad (Read: MOST PCs unless the voluntarily give in).

Incomplete Fusion: A variant of Madness Fusion in which Vis combines with an inanimate object, transforming it into a potent weapon that can be wielded. As Vis has no Soul, resonance cannot be achieved, however it can amplify wavelengths projected into it and turn them into dangerous cutting edges, or fire projectiles from them. Even if her were to fuse with a melee weapon, due to being naturally capable of firing projectiles. (See below). This form of fusion lasts only five rounds, at which point Vis vacates the item while it breaks ... possibly even explosively. Exiting prematurely does not result in as fantastic results, and the item could be repossessed (with the remaining number of rounds representing its durability). If the item it is fused with is broken, no damage is done to it though, and the fusion is just ended prematurely.

Energy Projectiles: Capable of projecting various attacks of energy that, while primarily intended to injure Soul Wavelengths, can reach such density so as to inflict physical damage.

ŪNUM - A single wide beam fired in a straight line. Intended to be capable of physical harm, this projectile has a limited range up to ten meters from his location until it dissipates, but can be fired with disturbing rapidity. That said, each shot has to be fired separately, and there is an upper limit to how many can be fired consecutively before a cooldown is necessary. It is a column of purplish light about a meter in diameter fired in a linear direction as indicated by the direction the palm of Vis's hand faces. Up to three consecutive shots may be fired, before a mandatory one round cooldown is needed. If it lands, it strikes with enough force to crack stone, and would probably land like a very intense punch to a person. Given the deafening blast each shot gives, it's possible the attacks travel a tad bit beyond the speed of sound. Fortunately, there is a tell to when Vis would use such attacks (and these apply to the rest of his attacks) as a purplish flamelike glow will cover his hand(s) moments before actually attacking.

DUO - As the name indicates, two projectile attacks, fired in unison. However, unlike the beam-like single attack, these two take more after traditional 'round fireball'-esque projectiles. They are considerably slower than the previous attack, and instead present a danger by being homing projectiles. The homing mechanism is based on attraction to a Soul Wavelength, allowing them to home in on their targets regardless of position. That said, they will normally pick the path of least resistance, which means maneuvering behind a wall is a good way to avoid getting hit. And, tactically sound, as they are intended to do damage to the Soul as opposed to the surroundings, so it press up against the wall and be unable to proceed. That said, the projectiles are surprisingly hardy against damage, as physical attacks and objects seem only to halt or slow their progress rather than stop them.

The true danger of this attack is that Vis can personally direct the twin projectiles at will, usually directing them around obstacles, or perhaps maneuver them around to flank enemies. However, he must be within a ten meter radius of their position to be able to direct them. Otherwise, they just default to chasing a target. The amount of damage these two have is considerable, particularly if they both strike a target. A searing pain that rips through the soul, and feels as if a bomb went off inside a person (usually also causing enough damage to induce physical trauma).

They require a single round of charging to prepare, will persist until they strike a target (and no more can be generated until they do), are always summoned in pairs, and have a mandatory three round cooldown after both are detonated. A potent wavelength attack can prematurely detonate them.

Inhuman Body and Structure: While it appears human, Vis is anything but. As such, it is capable of distorting and twisting its body beyond human capability to achieve near-impossible range of motion. As only its exterior looks human, this also means that it has no traditional human-like weakpoints such as a head or a heart to target for, and must be destroyed via overwhelming force in order to be stopped. However, since Vis is not as strong as it used to be, it cannot continuously remained malformed and will need to 'return' to its default appearance. Usually with a comedic sounding snap as he is forced back into shape like a rubber band.

Air Hop: Being an embodiment of Madness and not truly a living entity, Vis was once capable of flaunting most laws of physics on a whim, in particularly anything concerning gravity. Having lost most of its powers, it possesses a degraded version of its levitation powers in the form of the Air Hop, which allows it to make jumps that no normal human could achieve (usually launching up ten meters straight into the air at most) and also gently float down as if it were a leaf. This 'hop' can also be done in mid-air as well, much like a Video Game "Double Jump" assuming it has not already done it before. It is also quite capable of 'swimming' through the air when drifting back down, allowing directional motion beyond gravity pulling it downward.

Awakening - Locked until either 100 souls, 10 contracts or 1 symbiotic partner is obtained.

If 100 souls are acquired, Vis can return to his true form for a limited time, but his current abilities are trapped at their present level and thus transforming only allows him to tap into his currently unavailable powers. Additionally, he can only remain in his old form for a single round/post before reverting (and then a two round cooldown before being able to assume it again)

If 10 contracts are acquired, Vis can return to his true form for a limited time, (also a single round + two round cooldown), but his presently available powers are then restored to the original (stronger) capability at the cost of not being able to access the other missing abilities.

If a symbiotic partner is obtained, Vis can maintain his true form for three rounds and has access to his present abilities at their current power levels. However, the primary difference between this option and the previous two, is that he regains his regenerative capability (making him all the more difficult to destroy) and via devouring souls (twenty souls per) generate new abilities that can be accessed from this form. There is only a single-round cooldown.

If more than one condition is fulfilled, Vis can access his true form with the cumulative abilities of either conditions fulfilled. The amount of time he has in such form and the time spent between each usage, is also cumulative. (So, if he fulfills all three conditions, he can access his true form for five rounds and then must wait another five before being able to do so again, while having access to ALL of his powers at their peak and any new ones he may have picked up).

As Vis is severely depowered, it is very much unlikely he will be able to fulfill any of the three conditions soon. So the powers he would gain via awakening shall be left off the application until such a time when they are made necessary.

Miscellaneous: It has a fascination with the "Internets," it does not believe Insanity is the natural state of humans, and it most certainly does not have a fetish for gelatin.
