Dropping & Abandoning Characters
If you no longer wish to use a character (whether it has been accepted or not), you simply add (Dropped) to it's character sheet (CS) topic title. We, as SERP's Staff, would prefer if you also notified us of this change.
Now, there are also alternatives to dropping a character:

  1. You can place the character up for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] so that it does not disappear from the site.
  2. You can also [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] your character, either by the hand of another of your characters, or by another user's character.
  3. If you are not sure whether or not you want to return to using the character in the future, you can consider it (Missing); use this label for such characters on your Character Log.
  4. If you are planning on going on a hiatus or leaving the site, please mark your characters as (Dropped) and (Missing) unless they are (Injured).

Orphanage
Abandonment

  1. Titles of threads depend on the number of characters that you are giving away. If you're giving away a single character then post their name as a new topic. If you're giving away multiple characters, please label the topic something like "Oblivion's Character Giveaway." Feel free to get creative.
  2. Include all of your character's current threads and/or relations, especially if you expect the Adopter to stay true to the character.
  3. Link the character sheets of all of your Adoptees in the post(s).
  4. Add the (Abandoned) tag to the abandoned characters' sheet titles.
  5. You have the option of asking Adopters not to change anything, or much, about a character; that is entirely your choice, but please specify this.
  6. Once someone has adopted your character, PM them the bbcode for their character sheet.

Adoption

  1. Please contact the user giving away characters in their preferred manner; do not PM them if they wish for posts and do not post if they wish for PMs. Users have every right to ignore you if you do otherwise.
  2. It is up to the original owner of the characters to decide who it is that they go to; if he/she does not want you to have their (specific) character(s) then that is not your call. Move on.
  3. Adoptions are first-come, first-serve. If someone else claims a character that you wanted, leave that user alone.
  4. All Users… Do NOT turn adoption threads into discussion or argument threads.
  5. Once you have adopted the character, you should receive their code from the original owner in a PM. Use this, including a link to the original sheet, and put the (Adopted) tag in the title.

"My RP partner dropped/abandoned…"

  1. If the owner of a character you RP with drops their character, then two things can happen. Either the user themself IC explains what happened with the character, or they are treated as though they have gone Missing. Only the owner of the character can specifically determine the circumstances.
  2. If your partner has abandoned a character then reactions depend on the status of that character. If they are never officially dropped, then treating it as, "I haven't seen them in a while…" without saying they're missing is your best bet, until something else happens with the character.
  3. If the character has been adopted, there are two options. Speak to the new user and discuss whether or not you're going to continue whatever previous relationship was had between the characters. If yes then good, just brief them on the situation if the previous owner did not. If no then decide between the two of you why not, IC or create your own reasoning (preferably by referencing the character as little as possible). One recommendation is simply to say that the characters, "grew apart" or the adopted character, "isn't the same person anymore." Neither of which would exactly be wrong, and it solves the problems. If more help than this is needed, contact a Staff member and they'll help come up with a solution.
