PostSubject: A new day, a new student.    August 6th 2014, 9:39 pm

Shilo tipped her head back, eyes scanning the horizon. In her sight stood the academy, towering and grim. She closed her eyes for a moment to gather herself before taking to the stairs which appeared endless in the mid-summer afternoon. Adorned in luggage, she hiked her backpack into position and gripped the handles of her two suitcases before she began her trek. Heatwaves glistened over each coming step, vanishing with each stride as she made the climb to the DWMA. Brow furrowed, she topped the final step and exhaled with relief, setting the luggage down for a moment while taking in the massive student body bustling throughout the grounds. She pondered for a moment, what awaited her through those doors and if she was truly ready to take on the title of meister. The induction process was simple enough she received her papers and was then tasked to figuring out where exactly the dorms were located.

Shilo frowned at the map, too shy… and maybe a bit of pride, kept her from asking for assistance as she seated herself on a bench. Whatever, I’ll find it eventually. She thought as she removed the backpack from her shoulder and retrieved a sketchbook from within. The messy bun atop her head dropped as she pulled a pencil from the curls. Pursing her lips she pressed the tip to the paper and gazed at the architecture, and began sketching as the sun lowered in the distance. How was she going to get around if she couldn’t follow the map? Stress crept slowly in as her concentration diminished. Frustrated she tossed her book aside, an instant regret as the pages flapped in the wind and toppled over the balcony, into the depths of the school. She grunted in irritation before deciding to retrieve her valued book begrudgingly.

James was walking up the steps of the school to visit his cousin Carmine when a notebook hit the ground next to him. He looked up and just saw the balcony. He thought to himself "Someone must've dropped it from up there." He picked it up and opened it. He saw the name Shilo. He closed it and proceeded towards the staircase to the balcony above.

Melody came walking by, music blaring as usual, when she saw a new girl walking down from the balcony. She had be new, her backpack was waaaayyy to stuffed. She laughed a little as she tried to catch up to the new girl and say hi. She ran over to her, and stopped right in front of the newbie. "Hi! I'm Melody Bridges, Weapon, are you new??", she said happily, sticking her hand out.

Shilo halted swiftly as a girl moved into her path. She flinched as she caught herself before face planting into the stranger. Brow raised she parted her lips to speak as the girl’s voice rang out to her, an introduction. “Oh… hi…” she managed, without realizing the awkward tone she was giving off. She cleared her throat and took the girl’s hand in her own, shaking it gently. “I’m Shilo… I’m a meister.” Her posture tilted a bit as she peered over the girl’s shoulder. “I… uh dropped my sketch book.” She stated, nodding in the direction she was headed. “It fell down there…” she pointed, side stepping some as if to begin running down the steps.

She started past Melody, hoping she would follow. Shilo wasn’t moving too fast with the luggage she had, though still appeared urgent. Her long legs took each step smoothly, though not so smooth as she stumbled forward, bumping into another student. “What the….” She frowned, stepping back and glancing up at the boy she’d just shoulder checked. “I… uhh…. Sorry..?” she mumbled, rubbing her shoulder as she kneeled down to pick up her backpack which had fallen in the process.

James bumped into the girl making her bag fall. "I'm so sorry, I should have been looking where I was going." He knelt down to help her with her bag. "I want to guess you're Shilo." He said giving her the notebook. He pulled his hood down letting his white hair fall. He could tell that she was new to the school because she had a lot of bags. He took her hand, kissed it and introduced him self. "My name is James Kozak, its nice to make your acquaintance."

Shilo retrieved the pack with the help of the boy she’d knocked into and sighed with relief when he held the book out to her. She gripped the leather sketch book and held it for a moment as if to savor its safe return before zipping it up into the bag, safe and sound. She slipped the hair tie from around her wrist and reached up to bun her hair again, she preferred it out of her face, especially in the heat and wondered how this kid was wearing a hoodie. Her eyes followed the motion of his hands as he removed the hood, and marveled for a single second at the bright white that was his hair. Distracted, she flinched at James’s gesture, tensing up as the kiss landed softly atop her fair hand. “Umm… yeah… I’m Shilo..” she stammered, bowing properly at the taller male. “Thank you for finding my book.” She added, her voice warm and feminine. “I’m new… and I’m kind of lost and…. Yeah, so here I am.” She explained, a playful smirk followed the sentence.

He moved the hair that was covering his left eye and revealed the glowing red eye that was his trademark. "Well, it's nice to meet you Shilo. Would you like for me to show you around? I'm going up to the school to talk some since into my cousin." He said with a gentle smile on his face.

Shilo found the boy odd and even odder, his red eye creeped her out to some degree. She nodded at his offer. “I have to find the dorms first.” She told him, motioning with her bags that she didn’t want to carry them around any longer than she had to. His looks didn’t seem to match his behaved and gentlemanly personality, though she hardly had room to assume anything about anyone. “Your cousin needs advice?” she asked, holding the map out to him which had her dorm room circled in red.

He noticed her looking at his eye. "Don't worry, this is nothing bad. It's basically a gift from a witch to make sure that I never forget a certain event. Let my carry those for you." He said taking the biggest bags. "Come on the girls dorms are right over here." As they walked he spoke again. "Btw, no my cousin is a smart kid he just needs to get serious. I wish I was when I went to school here."

She frowned at the mention of a witch, did she know a witch in her life? She was sure to meet one in the future so it seemed. “It’s just bright…” she replied, the red glow moving across the boy’s cheek as he took her larger bags. “Is it really that close?” she grumbled at her failure. The dorms were hardly difficult to locate and she sighed at this. “Ahh well…. Maybe I need some sense talked into me, since I don’t feel very serious either.” She stated truthfully, following after him.

He laughed. "Don't be to hard on yourself. Your new here and the map is quite confusing. When I went to school here I came to the girls dorms because I thought I was in the right place. Opened what I thought was my door and entered on two girls changing... Yea it didn't really work out for me. When I got enough money I bought my own apartment." He stops and points to the top apt of a building. "Thats where I live." He said carrying her bags to her door. "Here you are." He takes out a piece of paper and gives it to her. "This is my number. If you need help again. Don't hesitate to ask. I'll be going up to the school if you need me." He said with a smile and walked away pulling his hood up. He turned around one more time and said loudly. "You know what you should do next? Let me take you to dinner tonight." He said with a smile on his face, he waved, then turned towards the school/

“I’d have done the same I’m sure if you weren’t leading the way. I mean… I’m directionally challenged.” She chuckled at his story, imagining the picture of embarrassment, though when she looked at him directly she wasn’t sure James was capable of being embarrassed, he seemed grounded and direct, and she could only hope to be more self-assured. She followed his gesture and squinted into the distance at his apartment and then looked back at the door before her. She felt nervous at the thought of having a stranger for a roommate. Shilo took the paper into her hand and flashed him a grateful look. “So, I’m only supposed to call you if I need you, then?” she joked, tucking the paper into the side pocket of her backpack. As James turned away she braced herself as she pushed the door open, only to be caught off guard once more by the boy who asked her to dinner. She sat her backpack down inside the doorway, feeling shy now that he’d asked, and even more so once her stomach growled loudly at the thought of food. “I… I think I will…” she replied quickly, watching his back as he started toward the school. For whatever reason she felt stressed now, though this only lasted for a short moment before realizing the dorm was empty and that she’d yet to be assigned a roommate. She tossed her things onto the bed and hurried out the door, running to the edge of the balcony. “JAMES! WAIT!” she called after him, cupping a hand over her eyes to block the sun. He was a decent distance away and she hurried after him , not sure if he’d heard her.

James stopped and put his hand over his eyes to see. He saw Shilo running from her apartment towards him. In that short amount of time he had already made it half way up the steps. "I wonder what she needs." He said walking slowly down in her direction.

Shilo reached him in no time, seeing as he’d back tracked toward her. She slowed to a stop before him and inhaled cutely. “Well…. I don’t have a dorm mate… and you should show me around, y’know?” she explained, chewing on the inside of her cheek. She glanced to the side “and also I’m hungry…” she added with a slight laugh.

He smiled and laughed a little. "Sure. Let's get some lunch. And if your still up for it. I'll buy you dinner tonight." He looked back at the school and thought "Carmine can wait for a little while." He began walking down the steps towards the market. He bought them both plate lunches. He walked toward a bench and gave her the food. "So this is the market. Mainly where you can buy food, plants, you know. " He looks toward a side path. "Down there is the path to the training field."

“No rush.. or whatever…” she said, watching him as lead her away from the school. “Too many stairs” she thought, feeling grumpy at the idea of having to use them a hundred times a day. She looked around at the bustling market place, seemingly fascinated by its entirety and newness. As he walked her toward the lunch destination, she kept finding herself distracted by the going ons and losing sight of James every once and a while before they arrived at their destination, a small café where in James had already ordered and brought food out to her. She sat at the table with him, taking the seat across from him, so as to face him. “So plants?” She laughed. “Sounds boring if you ask me.” She could Tell he wasn’t much for conversation and couldn’t stop laughing at his description of the market. Laughing made it a bit hard to eat, though she managed as she looked toward the training grounds. She’d soon be on those grounds. “Training…” She sighed aloud, her fork still between her lips.

He chuckled and kept eating. "Believe it or not. On my missions I have used these very plants to save and take lives. I think the market is so busy because the festival is this weekend. The students are required to do a booth. Ah, that means your going to be working this weekend. I loved working the festivals, I don't know why. Everyone hated it. I wish I could still call myself a student." He said looking down as he ate.

She knew the potential of plants, of course, laughing at his seriousness. "A festival? What?" she choked, swallowing her food down heavily. "What kinda stuff am I supposed to be doing exactly..." she sighed, hardly prepared for anything as exciting as a festival. Her brow furrowed at his following statement and she fumbled with her fork before daring to ask. "So... why aren't you a student...?" she inquired quietly, a coy look in his direction.

"The students have a choice of booths like a funnel cakes, ring toss, or a kissing booth. They usually always vote for the kissing booth because no one over 20 ever does it." He got up and threw the rest of his plate away and sat back down. "I was expelled a year ago, because I tried to break a criminal out of the DWMA dungeons. But I was being forced to by a witch and the teachers and Lord Death didn't believe me. So they expelled me and I was almost killed by the witch." He lifts his hoodie revealing his chest and on it is a scar going from his right breast down across his stomach. "You probably don't believe me either..." He looks down and a stream of tears form from his right eye but from his left eye is stream of blood that replaced tears. He pulls his hood up and stands up and pays the check. "I'm... sorry." He walks slowly toward the training ground and takes out a photo and looks at it as he walks.

"That doesn't sound... awful.." she replied, eating much slower than he, she spun the lo mein around her fork, putting it to her lips and taking a bite as she listened to a story which turned dark quickly. Her eyes moved from her plat up to James's chest which sported a nasty scar. She frowned instantly. Setting her fork down slowly and unsure of how to react to his actions. She didn't want to think about witches or how they ruined lives. Shilo stared at the boy watching the tears fall. "J...James..." she muttered, words failing her as he started away. "I.. I'm sorry...." she stammered, walking toward him, but keeping her distance. Crying made her nervous and stressed. "I didn't mean to bring it up..." she murmured.

He drops to his knees and drops the photo it lands in front of him and he just keeps crying. Everyone around him stops what their doing and stares at him. The children stop playing and look asking questions. A little boy asks his mother. "What is he mommy?". James looks up and sees everyone staring at him, he stands up and begins to yell. Tears still falling. "What are you all staring at!?! You think I'm a freak too don't you!" He turns and runs down a alley leaving the photo, making a regretful decision.

Shilo stepped away from James as he began to sob uncontrollably. A crowd was gathering and she felt uncomfortable, as if someone was watching who wasn't supposed to. She flinched as she screamed at the crowd and took off down an alley she was unfamiliar with, seeing as she was unfamiliar with the entire area. Wanting to call out for him, but thinking better of it, she notices the photo he dropped and picks it up without looking at it and turning quickly to go after him.

The alley was dark and narrow as she sidled through it, calling for the boy in a hushed tone. Panic set in as she received no responses and found herself pressed against the wall. Her back slid down the stone as she crouched into a defeated position, hugging her knees and resting her forehead on her knee caps, photo still in hand. Where had he gone?

The photo was of him but with black hair and he was with a girl. On the back was writing that says. "Our special day. I Love You Destiny. <3" He walked from the shadow and sat next to her. "Are you okay? I'm sorry I just left you. I couldn't handle them all staring at me like I am a monster..." He put his hood up covering his face.

She flipped the photo over in her fingers after reading the back, feeling depressed at the thought of what could have happened to this girl and to him. She sighed heavily, blinking down at the ground and feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over her. A chill shuddered through her. The DWMA was real. And she was here. She would gain allies and lose them, she will have to face trials that may change er forever, and as these thoughts flooded her head James's voice crept through. She peered up at James eyes following as he sat beside here. "You know, they weren't looking at you like you were a monster." she stated tenderly, her voice quiet in the tiny alley way. She hated feeling lost, both physically and mentally.

He looked at her. "Come on, let's get you home. You've had enough for today." He stood up and put his hands our to help her up. "You need to rest because you start tomorrow. I'll be at your door to show you to class at the first bell." He smiled a little bit.
