A Nervous Luci Signing Up

A small girl, just barely 5 feet tall, stood alone in front of Lord Death's room. Her strangely red eyes traveled up to the top of the door, which seemed to grow taller every time she looked. She suppressed a squeak of fear, and pushed away the urge to back up. My name is Lucille Nicole and I want to sign up for this mission. she practiced what she would say to Lord Death. She knew that in the presence of such an important-not to mention terrifying-person, she would definitely lose the ability of speech. She practiced her piece over and over in her mind, until she believed she was ready to knock.

Luci rose her hand-balled into a fist-and readied herself to knock. Panic began to take over before her hand came in contact with the wood, and she stood there, paralyzed. Her other hand clutched a slip of paper, advertising a mission. Luci had nothing to do, and she was fairly adept at using her ability on her own, so she decided to take it. Unfortunately, her nerves were kicking in. So she stood in front of the room, hand raised and shaking slightly.

Hademaru walked up to the door the the Death Room, ready to sign up for a mission. As he walked up, he saw a girl standing there, trying to knock. "must be new." He said to himself as he walked up behind her. "You do know you can just walk in right?" He asked.

Luci jumped at the boy's voice, stumbling backwards. "oh!" she gasped, eyes wide in shock. She must've looked like a fool just standing there, she sure felt like one. "O-of course I knew that..." she mumbled, dropping her gaze I the floor after a swift glance to the boy.

She hadn't known, though. She had been away for such a long time that she must have forgotten. Europe had been so different. Her friend-who had gone with her to Europe-decided to stay there for longer, but Luci wanted to come back to the academy. She had been gone too long though, it seemed, if she had already forgotten such a trivial thing.

"I knew that." she repeated, "I was just being polite." she backed up a few more paces, till her back was against the wall opposite the door. She risked a quick glance at the boy, before returning her red eyes to the floor.

"ummm...okay?" He said awkwardly. "Hey, you okay?" He asked.

"I'm fine." Lucille declared, letting her eyes drift upwards. She watched the boy for a moment, her blue hair falling in her face. "why do you care?" she asked, still backed against the wall. She was anything but fine, Luci didn't know who this boy was, and she was scared by his very presence. Of course, Little Lucille was scared by everything, so it didn't matter much anyways.

"your acting all weird." He said. "it's weird. Plus your up against the wall..... am I really that intimidating?" He asked, and though he didn't show it in any way, he was kinda proud of that.

"You're acting all weird" At this, Lucy's expression turned to a hurt frown. I'm not acting weird...She thought to herself. But then, how many 15 year old girls backed up against a wall in the presence of a boy? Probably more than would care to admit it..She chuckled silently to herself. 

"You're not intimidating...I just...um....don't...talk to people...often..." Her voice got smaller as she continued, shrinking up against the wall, before straightening when she realized how weird that was. 

"Oh?" He said curiously before smiling. "Don't worry, yah don't have to be shy around me..." He said, though he formed a sweatdrop on his head. "Plus.... I'm pretty sure if you hang around me, you won't have to talk to too many people." He admitted. Do to his normal way of speaking, most people ignore him, and even avoid him.

Lucille rose her eyes from the floor, placing them in plain view. Her red gaze fell on the boy, sizing up his strange style of clothing, his size and his words. She noted a small bead of sweat forming on his forehead. 

"I don't choose who to be shy around." Luci snapped softly, "It just happens. It's not like I have any control." She let her eyes drop to the floor again, believing she had given herself enough time to see the boy. He was quite a bit taller than her, which did-no matter how much she denied it-intimidate her a bit. She was a small girl, and anyone bigger than her posed a threat, of which she was not fond of. But she didn't let it show-at least she tried not to. "I don't talk to a lot of people anyways." She added as a last thought.

"Come on." He said leaning so he could look at her at eye view. "You don't have to be afraid of me, or most of the people here, especially Death." he said. "They're all cool people, and Death is the most hilarious person here."

Lucille averted her gaze when the boy leaned over, staring at the floor. Her blue hair fell into her face, only slightly concealing her red eyes. 

"Yeah well you're not the only one who's said that." She mumbled, "People lie, you can never know who to trust. And I know that Death is funny, I've met him before. I've just...been gone awhile..." Her voice trailed off, growing softer with every word she spoke.

"well... I guess you have a point... still, I promise you most people here are trust worthy... most.."He said, as he adjusted his robe. "So if you've been here before, where if your partner? Shouldn't you be working together?"

"I-I don't think I have a partner anymore...." Sora muttered, ducking her head in embarrassment, "But I can work alone now." She added as an after thought, glancing up at the boy. "Shouldn't you have a partner?"

Hademaru laugh after that. "guess you have a point." He said. "I'm training right now, so that I can be worthy of the weapon I'm seaking. But until then it's Asura's Bane and me." Then something clicked in his head. "Wait, what do you mean 'anymore'? Did something happen?"

Lucille opened her mouth to ask what Asura's Bane was, but was cut off as he spoke again. The boy asked what she meant by "anymore." That was a difficult question-one she wasn't sure how to answer. Should she tell the truth or fudge it a little?

"Well....I went away for a while....and I think he's found another partner already...." She mumbled, unclenching the fist that held the paper. The flyer floated gently to the floor, landing without a sound. Luci, however, couldn't hold back a quiet sob. Just thinking about her old Meister made her sad, what would she do without him? Skyler was still in Europe and Leo was somewhere out there with his new partner. But Lucille was alone. She had no one to fall back on, again. She suddenly felt very lonely.

With a frustrated blink, the small girl stood up straighter. She wiped her eyes with the heel of her hand, and stared straight at the boy, red eyes and all. She set her lips in a straight line, and tried to betray less emotion. Skyler had been working on this with her while they were away-how to stand up, stop feeling bad for herself and start acting strong, even if she wasn't.

Hademaru sighed, it was obvious she was trying to act tough. "Look" He began smiling. "You don't have to act tough, especially around me, I'm around depressing stuff alot especially recently. So don't try to act and just be yourself okay?" He said trying to help her out and feel more natural around him.

His words, though meant to be comforting, seemed creepy to her. Here she was, a weak looking girl talking to some guy she didn't know. From her perspective, it was rather strange and quite an intrusion. She didn't know him or anything about him, not even his name. Why was he even talking to her?

"Why are you trying to get me to talk?" She asked somewhat nervously, "I don't even know you, why would I 'be myself' around you?" Her voice grew stronger, struggling to remember her 'lessons' with Sky about how to keep herself safe. "I don't know if you're trustworthy or not, and you haven't really given me reason to, in either direction. Despite your, erm, kindness."

"Geez just trying to give some advice and trying to be friendly, sheez." He said, moving back a bit. "Look this academy is like an extended family to me, so even people I don't know I try to be friends with, and give advice to, whether they want to hear it or not. Sorry." He turned on his heel, not reacting well to having the shy person's version of exploding at him for being kind and friendly. He walked into Death's room, looking around at the arches with guillotines on them.

Lucille watched him as he whirled around after his own little outbreak. She get her eyes growing wet again, and turned away from the door. She couldn't even focus on the fact that he had just taken away her chance for a mission. Instead, her goal was to get out of there.

Without a single glance behind her, she tip toed out of the hallway and down another corridor. She moved quickly and lightly on her feet, making almost no sound as she whippe around corners in attempt to get as far away as possible

She knew she was being childish-afterall, she had started it. She didn't care. It was her second day back and she'd already managed to screw something up just like always... she thought sadly, finally stopping inside an empty classroom. She shut the door and slid down, facing the grimy windows on the other side of the room. She drew her knees up, ignoring the pang of hunger that jabbed her stomach. She didn't cry. No, now that she was further away, it didn't seem so sad anymore.

Im going to pay for this aren't i... she wondered to herself. She knew the answer, of course. She was alone, who would punish her? Surely not herself...right?

As Hademaru walked he realized how chilish he was being. He had pretty mush stormed off, and mature people don't do that, they end the conversation politely and leave the same way. He could already hear the rant his mom wold give him when he got home. and after much debating, he turned around to go apologize to the girl for being so immature. When he went out there, all that was there was a slip of paper. When he picked it up he laughed lightly, they were both signing up for the same mission. He picked a direction and walked that way, before finding her. an empty classroom, He thought. sounds like how Gyo-gan and Elizabeth met. He walked to the metal bars that held the door in place when it was closed and lightly knocked on them. "May I come in?" He asked his voice a little quieter than from earlier.

Lucy jumped at the voice, and was, quite simply, shocked. She was sure that the number of twists and turns she'd taken had promised that she wouldn't be found. It's not possible. She decided. She was lost herself, so how could someone have found her? She recognized the voice, it was the boy from before. As if I want to talk to him. 


"No." She said, standing. She stepped carefully away from the door, turning to face it. She backed away, to watch and see if anyone came in.

"Okay... can I at least apologize?" He asked, leaning on the metal bars that outlined the door.

Lucille, farther away from the door now, snorted. Rolling her eyes and pursing her lip, she contemplated the question. 

"Fine, I don't care." She scowled.
