Beneath the expansive structure of the Death Weapon and Meister Academy used to lay a massive prison, designed to hold the now deceased Kishin, Asura, within his own skin. It has been many years since the Kishin was ever a threat, so many that a new one has risen up in his stead. This, however, is not a concern of the Great Old One of Knowledge, Eibon. Unlike his former comrade and friend, Eibon's focus remains glued to discovery, knowledge, and the pursuit of answers. Remaining on shaky grounds with his former commander, Eibon has taken up residence beneath the Academy, in the catacombs that once held the world's greatest threat. Here, he has set up his own school, aligned both with and not with the Academy above. It is here that those weapons, and sometimes, their meisters, that have consumed Monster souls reside. Hunter's Axes, Eibon's Grimoires, and their meisters, typically Witches, reside in the Institute's expansive dormitories, if only for their first year of enrollment.
The entirety of the Institute is made up of five total zones: The city situated around the entrance of the underground, Salem; the Auditorium, where all students meet at the start of each day for lessons, lectures, and news; the dormitories themselves, where weapons reside in private rooms with their meisters/witches/sorcerers; the former Shrine/prison, which Eibon has converted into his private residence and office, much like the Death Room above; and the main, seemingly "open" area, chiefly expanding between the dormitories and auditorium. This expanse is a danger zone, an obstacle course designed to make sure that the students remain at the top of their game; students must make it through this every day, and if they cannot, Eibon does not see it as his problem. If the Institute's students cannot make it through the school itself then they would not be able to handle the missions they would be sent on, as the real world will pull no stops for them: "natural selection" at it's finest. As a result, fights are all but encouraged.
By Eibon's doing, the entire expanse of the underground's ceiling is covered in panels that mimic the sky, providing artificial lighting and keeping it's residents' internal clocks in sync with the outside world. Professors and trainers reside in Salem, though the majority of the city consists of a wide plethora of shops. Even so, many buildings are left empty but well-kept on the off chance that anything needs to be added in the future. Missions are accepted here, at a booth in the auditorium, which is run by a rather well-known Chameleon witch, now appearing to be in her teenage years.
