Deleted/Inactive Accounts, Threads, and Characters Empty
PostSubject: Deleted/Inactive Accounts, Threads, and Characters   Deleted/Inactive Accounts, Threads, and Characters I_icon_minitimeNovember 6th 2017, 10:45 am

Q: So, I haven't been on in a while and now my account has been (deactivated/deleted). Can you help...?

A: Alright, well, first of all, you should all be made aware, if you weren't already, that we do Clean-ups periodically. Typically, this was done at the first of every month, but it slows down when site activity is lower, so that threads and whatnot don't have to be continuously pulled back out of the archive. User accounts, however, also go through these clean-ups. That's why, if you'll notice, new users' profile numbers will be in the hundreds while the active account list is much lower. We do this to get rid of dud or redundant accounts (where people's previous account was deactivated and they made a new one to contact us, or someone made an account and never posted with or activated it). To be clear, the Clean-Ups roster is as follows:

OVERALL:
-Residents threads (including dorms) are not to be archived.
-User clean-ups are to be done at the beginning of each month.
-Thread clean-ups should be done bi-weekly.

User clean-ups go as follows ---
30 days of no visiting --- warning
120 days no visiting --- deactivate
240 days no visiting --- delete
270 days no posting --- warning
300 days no posting --- deactivate
360 days of no posting --- delete

For this reason, we ask that our users login occasionally --- you don't even have to post --- to avoid getting their account deactivated or deleted. If you've gone a significant amount of time without posting, doing that as well would help. Threads like the randomness, "Last One to Post Wins" and variations thereof threads are good to pop in without pressure, or you can just making a member announcement stating that, "I can't get on for (x) reason, but I don't want my account deleted," and that can be the end of that.

No, to go about the process of re-instating accounts:

If your account was deactivated:
Send the staff a message, preferably on one of our personal accounts, telling us your account's username and we'll go through and tick it as active, once more. This is fairly one-and-done.

If your account was deleted:
Well, here is where things are complicated. For starters, we can't restore an account once it has been deleted. You will need to create a new account and then contact us, should you want anything from your old account. From there, we need some measure of proof that you are who you say you are. Here's some things that we'd need:

  • Old username
  • Someone (active) that you RP'ed with in the past, if possible
  • A list of your characters, or at least ones that you'd want to keep. (This is another reason why logs are useful)
  • Some threads that you remember being in; if you remember the names or can link them, that would be even better.
  • If you have any idea when your account was deleted. Better yet, if you can provide us a screenshot of the deletion email (which will say that your account was judged inactive; this is a forumotion thing so we don't know how to change that), we'll have definite proof that you are who you say. The email will come from sender "Soul Eater Roleplay, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]".

If your Thread was archived:
Accounts are the only things on SERP that are actually deleted; everything else on-site is archived in one way or another. For threads, this is most obvious. If you find that your thread has been one of the unlucky ones to be archived, thus making it where you cannot respond to it, simply send a staff member a message with the thread name (and link, if you'd be so kind), and we'll move it back to the World section, once more. This only applies to RP threads; all others will have to be remade.

If your Character(s) is/are inactive:
This happens if your account has been deleted (or there has been a mishap with clean-ups). Once your new account has been proven to be you, simply provide a list of characters and we'll send you their CS codes so that you can post new sheets. They'll have to be re-approved, but this is typically not an issue for reinstated characters. If your account has NOT been deleted and there was an oopsy with the sheet, just let us know and we'll dig it back out.

If you dropped a character you wish to re-instate:
Let us know, preferably providing a link in the process, and we'll reinstate it. Be aware that we CAN ask for changes to be made to characters that are being reinstated, though this is rare.

Everything re-instated? Good! Now, there are some other things to worry about...

For starters, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is extremely relevant in this situation. If a member of the SERP community has left the community, or been on an extended hiatus (this includes accounts becoming marked as inactive or deleted), their characters get treated as being "Missing" unless the user has stated otherwise prior to their disappearance. The full plethora of details regarding this are stated in said post; please read it.

All in all, you need to be aware of the status of any relationships, platonic, combatant, or otherwise that your character was in and how it may have changed. Maybe your character is back but they're SO has moved on to someone else. Maybe they haven't and have been pining for you. Same goes for weapon/meister, other comrades-in-arms, friends, etc. Some users may have chosen to use the disappearance as a character development factor. You have to be aware of this because, chances are, you won't be able to simply pick back up where things were left off. If there has been a site-wide hiatus (which happens during school, we are aware), then you might be right as rain, H O W E V E R you cannot necessarily assume this, especially if the user(s) controlling said character(s) remained active while you were away. Be prepared to do a drastic shift in your own character's life.
