PostSubject: Elodin, Master of the Swarm INACTIVE   Elodin, Master of the Swarm INACTIVE I_icon_minitimeJanuary 21st 2014, 3:13 am

Jakis, Elodin

Gender: Male

Age: 332

Animal Form: Bee’s are Elodin’s theme. A large chunk of his magic relates to them. He summons them with magic, using honey magic, even stinger and bee venom based magic.

Love Interest: Elodin has no one he loves, and doesn’t let that fact bug him,

Appearance: Elodin stands a total of 5 feet 6 inches tall, fairly short for a guy perhaps. His build is lightly athletic, and he takes care of himself. Despite everything else, he takes the time to keep himself fit. It is, by and large, simply logical to keep your body in as best health as possible. He has moderate black hair, which is fairly straight and goes down to his upper neck, only 4-5 inches long. His eyebrows match this color. However his eyes are naturally a very vibrant and glowing yellow. He often uses magic to change them to a different color though. He typically wears a rather simple set of clothing. A semi-formal outfit of dark black pants and a matching long sleeved shirt is his staple, usually with bright yellow accents, like stitching or a pattern along the bottom of the pant legs, etc. Black with bright yellow accents is the recurring theme. On his feet are a pair of simple black boots, with, your guessed it, bright yellow accents. Over this is a long black cloak, with innumerable small pockets into which he has all manner of things squirreled away. Once again, the same color scheme, it is entirely black with small bright yellow accents along the bottom. He also wears a black hat, which also has the same bright yellow accent. This isn’t a witchy type hat, but rather simple and not out of place compared to his semi-formal outfit. The entire thing gives him a slightly flamboyant and striking appearance, yet looks sharp and slightly formal.

Personality:  Elodin is an incredibly unusual and perspicacious person. And that is our cue to dive right into his most irksome feature to many. Elodin is incredibly articulate and eloquent, far too much so. His vocabulary is to the point that sometimes few can understand him as he vehemently insists upon utilizing magniloquent and pretentious words. He can sometimes weave together multifarious words to the point that it exasperates everyone around him, often resulting in everyone considering him quite loathsome. In addition, he is quite a wiseacre, in other words, a know it all. He annoys people largely because he just seems to assume people know things they don’t. This is most often when he gets exceptionally verbose, and just assumes that whoever he is talking to knows and understands what he is saying. And when someone asks what a word means, he sometimes reactions in a confused fashion, as if they are joking, because surely they know what it means, so it must be a joke. He isn’t really arrogant, let alone narcissistic, as he assumes everyone understands him, and everyone can do such things. He regards himself as fairly average, or perhaps reasonably smart, but not exceptionally so, and thus expects that everyone can match his wit and speech.

When it turns out that someone simply has no clue what he is talking about, or fails to meet his expectations, he tends to get fairly silent, and look at them. Not a glare, but rather as if he was looking through them, into their soul, trying to figure out why they can’t understand him, when he is being perfectly clear and concise. This look is often described as if he is X-raying you, or looking into their very soul. But this is preferable to what happens should someone earn his curiosity.  He will likely barrage them with questions, often these can be rude, asking for details of things one normally would not tell other people, let alone someone they just met. He be vehement in his quest to ascertain how such a thing came to be. In addition, he is more aware and alert than many. He pays attention to things most people disregard. A slight frown, a fidget, a slight scowl, he is notorious for analyzing things he sees, making guesses as to what is wrong based on their facial expressions paired with posture, stance, fidgeting, etc. Despite all of these quirks, he is also a quintessential gentleman. He obeys a rather strict code of etiquette, and can be formal sometimes in situations where it makes no sense to be. Manners and etiquette were drilled into him from a very young age, and to ignore them can be very hard. He tends to open doors, pull out a chair, etc.  for people, especially women. This in fact can also annoy some people.

Elodin is also a witch, and he isn’t at all a good guy. He refrains from killing because it benefits him not to. Firstly, it’s just a mess, and who wants viscera on their boots and clothes? Secondly, it’s just ungentlemanly to take life un-nessisarily. Most importantly perhaps, it’s just not fun. He would far rather have fun with someone than kill them. Anyone can grab a knife and slice a throat, it’s just barbaric. But what is more fun is to take them back to your lair and play with them. See what they do when you use magic and potions to change their body, meld their arms and legs and turn them into a big humanish slug that plays in your garden until they forgot they were even human. Elodin can be quite cruel, inhumanly so, but he rarely kills. Elodin experiments, tests the boundaries of magic, and learns new things. And if in the process he learns 1 thing and gains 20 more questions, all the better! Elodin is constantly curious. It is perhaps his most prominent quality. He simply can’t let a mystery go. He has to learn everything, and then learn it all again to be sure nothing new was discovered without his knowledge. He is the eternal scholar, always ready for the next lesson, and always wanting to solve the current mystery, just to replace it with another.

History: Elodin has led a rather interesting life. Despite being a witch, it was raised in a pretty normal, wealthy adoptive family. As such, from a young age all the formalities of wealthy 1680’s life. He learned how to be a proper gentleman, and how to behave at the table from a young age, and spent his life being tutored by the best, learning instruments, and in general the average upper class life of the time. He was a child, and thus t be seen and not heard, and to be presented to everyone that visited, and be as adult as possible, even as a toddler. And that was how things went in his childhood, though calling that a childhood would be a stretch. His powers started manifesting fairly young, much to the bane of his parents. He found he was great with bees, which seemed attracted to him. At the age of 6 years old he scared the living daylights out of his parents when he found a behive in the back yard, and started playing around it. In the end he came up to his parents, perfectly fine, yet covered with bees swarming all over him. His parents panicked and ended up angering the swarm, and his mother ended up dead. His father utterly rejected him afterwards, blaming him for the death of his wife. He was taken care of only by a nanny, and his fathers love was just barely enough to cover a small house in which he lived, and money to feed him and clothe him several times a year. In short, it was as little as possible without looking to the general public like he had abandoned his child. His nanny died 2 years after that, when she got angry and hit Elodin with a broom handle so hard she nearly broke his ribs. A swarm of bees seemed to come from the backyard, where the bees seemed to enjoy making nests near him, and killed her in a stinging mass.

From there, Elodin grew up on the streets, completely disowned by his father. He was mocked and hated, called a freak and a witch. At one point, while residing in a colonial town near salem, he was nearly burned alive, but a hive of bees once again defended him, and though in that case no one died, he managed to escape in the chaos. When he finally reached adulthood, he was lean and fit, and living by stealing and sometimes killing. He awakened his magical abilities more fully by then, and was having much more luck actively controlling the bees, instead of finding swarms seemed to come to him whenever he was threatened. Elodin began making a  home for himself in Virginia, using magic and bees to do it. In the end, he made a massive home from wood and rocks, and ample help from the bees, who built some parts from a similar material to what they made their hives out of, largely this was for insulation. Elodin spent his days alone , save for thousands of bees living in his house, in the walls and roof. His house was literally a bee hive in many ways. He stole and killed to get money and books. He taught himself out of books, you might compare it to modern online college, only with no internet, and no video conversations with a teacher. He read book after book, learned of math, politics, religion, spending years largely alone in his house studying. Finally, after having spent nearly 3 decade alone studying, he thought to make his knowledge official, and enter a university. But first he needed clothes. And because of that, he broke into a tailors store and stole the best suit of clothes he could, and headed out. He took time to steal from multiple stores on his  journey, obtaining the best clothing, paper, and other supplies. One would be wrong to say he was purely studying academics. No he was also a self taught pickpocket and lock-picker. He learned the art of being stealthy, and more importantly, what kind of things not to steal. He was caught many times while practicing, but being a witch, it never lead to any arrests.

In the end, he reached the best university with a purse (not a modern female carry bag, rather a bag in which coins and money were kept.) that was more that heavy enough to sustain his first terms tuition, let alone living expenses. He breezed through classes, astounding professors with the fact that he already knew the entire class before it really started, and infuriated other students for the same fact. It was hard to recognize that he was nearly 70 years old, with decades of study, for all they saw was a man who was fresh and young, and in the prime of that youth. He spent his time politely pretending to pay attention to the professors, while drawing or doodling, having read the books before the first class even started. When he bored of that he would play pranks of stealth with the other students. During his time at the university, many years in which he got virtually every degree they had to offer, many pranks occurred. One of them involving sneaking into a dorm room and covering a sleeping person entirely with what the university officials later deamed some kind of powerfull glue, which effectively glued a person to their bed for nearly 3 days, and in the end they cut off the bed, but the sheets still stuck to him like mad. They found the “glue” wouldn’t dry or stop being sticky because everything he touched stuck to him seemingly permanently. One day Elodin simply tired of the talk about the subject, and used magic to free him. Elodin’s powers grew substantially through such experimental pranks. After nearly 30 years, he left the university, and went back to his home, only to find it was unusable anymore, as the hive had spread, without him being there to control it, so that it was nearly just a house shape, with a solid hive inside filled with millions of bees. He dismissed his lost possessions, not being over fond of them anyway, and used magic to get rid of the bees and their hive, leaving a ruined moldering house behind, rotting wood and home of snakes and spiders.

He spent the next hundred or so years traveling the world, attending universities in virtually every civilized country He studied everything there was to know, a scholar with a burning and intense curiosity for every subject. He studed in both French and Italian cullenary schools, studied languages and philosophy in  rome, some extra math in London, in short, he attended every major university Europe had to offer, and then came back to America in the early 1900s. There he refreshed his nearly 50 year old medicine, before he headed off to West Point. There he learned military drills and military tactics and training. He graduated with great honors and was sent out for World War 1, as an officer. He rose through some ranks, but denied promotions that would put him in the spotlight, staying largely unknown to the public. After that, he continued service until it bored him, and retired. From there he went back to school, and got yet another medical degree or two, and took classes in multiple specializations, and when he got bored of that, moved to another college for some culinary learning to refresh himself. And that lead him to get bored with academia, and head into the world of witches and meisters. Instead of academia he is ready to explore new avenues for his curiousity, and push the bounds of magic more than ever before. With years of construction of a lair and mansion out in the middle of fair stretch of forest, with privacy and staffed by a few servants, he is ready to delve into this far less academic view of the world.

Miscellaneous:

  • Elodin uses bee related magic. This often takes the form of creating a small swarm of bees, or perhaps a single giant bee, things like that.
  • Elodin uses honey frequently in magic, using it like magic glue he often creates incredibly sticky honey and sprays it at people, creates a layer of honey on the ground, etc. that acts like glue to trap people.
  • Elodin has the rather odd ability to split his mind in half, thinking 2 separate thought patterns at the same time. It’s not something he does constantly, but he can.
  • Flight is usually done without any flair, just flying with his cloak blowing in the wind. Though he can and does use a “broom.” That said his broom is black and yellow, and features an odd honeycomb like pattern of a tail, instead of twigs.
  • Elodin owns a mansion, which was custom designed (he took many architecture classes) and really freaked out the construction workers. In the end it was payed for by money he stole from countless palces over the years, then put into high interest bank CD’s for in some cases over a hundred years. Having a long life has advantages, and bank interest is one powerful thing when you live hundreds of years.
