The Tinker Chronicles: Entereth The Beetle

'Okay, okay, you can do this. You are NOT a coward! You will march in there, and so help me, you WILL NOT breakdown at the thought of conversation!'

These thoughts belonged to one Beetle Gearsley, a new student who had gotten in on scholarship. Scrawny, short, and weak looking, he had rather dull brown hair, and nondescript eyes set behind a pair of spectacles. His clothing consisted of a grey shirt and black jacket. Of course, what made him look really odd was the device on his back. Looking like a small metal backpack of some sort, it would take a moment to register that it had no straps connecting to it. The device was actually part of the jacket. Made it a pain to pick out a outfit. And out of it came eight metal, spiderlike legs that descended to the ground, holding Beetle aloft.

But of course, who gives a flying hootenanny about his appearance? You certainly shouldn't.

Beetle was currently standing outside the doors of the DWMA, trying to prepare himself for the inevitable social contact. You see, Beetle was many things, but a social butterfly was not one of them.

Nor a social Beetle, either. Yes, I know, terrible pun[It was barely a pun actually], but bear with me.

For you see, Beetle had a crippling social anxiety. A result of severe, almost criminally negligent on the parts of his caretakers, social deprivation. Beetle had never really interacted with others his own age, and for those older, for much of his life, interaction was limited to tutoring and caring for his needs. His only real idea of how normal, functioning human beings interacted came from novels, which he knew to be poor sources of information.

'Okay, I think I can do this. Just breathe, and go in, and don't have a breakdown. Inhale, exhale, and now, my best foot forward!'

Entering, the inventor prepared to deal with his greatest fear, other people.

Roleplaying is like writing a story, dood, its all in the formatting and length. You don't format it right, it looks like a wall of text or a crappy script, which no one likes, if you don't get it long enough, it's boring. Ben was just inside school when he heard the door open. he didn't even look until he heard the tail tale sound of the metal legs. Ben was just a ten year old kid with light brown hair, but being a genius tinkerer himself he turned to look at beetle.  " Wow! Nice spider suspension matrix bro. " he stood up and started rubbing the material of the legs. " What is this, carbon steel, titanium? "

Okay. Time to do this. Time to make successful social contact! Now, how to reply? Beetle had done a bit of studying over how animals socialize in the wild, and humans were kinda like animals, right?

Okay, Beetle knew Humans and animals were nothing alike, but gosh darn it all to heck, he didn't want to go buy a book on human interaction. That would be both horribly embarrassing, and he had a limited amount of funds to work with. So animal interaction book (That was horribly outdated. Limited funds, remember?)

Anyways, Beetle had his legs extend to full height, resulting in his feet being several, well, FEET, off the ground, and gave a big smile, hoping that he would somehow manage a friendly, charming grin.

His grin was actually something you would likely see on a serial killer, managing to be both frightening looking and giving him a rather unhinged appearance. Combined with the height.....

Well, like I said, he looked rather scary.

"Not quite. Not rigid enough. Special alloy. Forged myself. Hollow on the inside, filled with gel. Like a bone, except liquid instead of marrow."

'Okay, that was good, you didn't freak out, you didn't panic. Good. Of course, it was a little........terse. But it probably won't be misconstrued as being hostile. After all, I did grin.'

" Hmmm, Cool! " Ben said. He climbed up the legs in record time to meet him eye to eye. He offered his hand to shake. " My names ben, I don't have a metal workshop at home so I don't have any concept of home made metals. Ummm, it might be best to retract them, unless your crippled. But your really sending the wrong messages. " He cocked his head to the side. " After all, I'm not a bear. "

Beetle lowered himself, still retaining his grin. Mostly because he couldn't figure a better facial expression. And his face may have gotten stuck, but that's irrelevant. He reaches out and gives Ben's hand a rigorous shaking.

"Beetle. Beetle Gearsley."

Well. This was going good.

" Nice to meet you beetle. " Said ben. A little strange... He thought. " So are you enrolling as a meister or as a weapon? "

"Meister." He said. "And what might you be enrolled as?"

" I'm a weapon, but I already have my partner. " Shame, I like this kid. " Anyways, what other devises do you got in there? "

His grin droops a little. Of course he wouldn't be lucky enough to find a weapon that fast. Meh. At least he was working on his social skills.

"Toolbox. Not much else. Rest of my stuff is at home. Got Drones, laser cutters, quick hardening foam, very good for restraining people, stopping fires. Few devices that give off a small sonic boom, knock a person flat. Not here though. At home. Didn't figure I would need them."

He tilts his head. Lightbulb.

"You are a weapon, correct? So, you would probably know other weapons? Do you happen to know a weapon without a meister? I would very much appreciate it if you did, as I would like to start hunting Kishin eggs soon, start stress testing my gear."

" Ummmm, no sorry. I'm sure you wont have any trouble finding one. Also take a page from my book. Ben unzips his jacket had underneath he is wearing a harness of tech and equipment. " If I leave it at home, it isn't portable.... ohh " Ben digs in his backpack and takes out a set of boots. " I've been trying to make these rocket boots, I've had success in rocket engines but they are to powerful and hard to control. I was trying to use a magnetic gravity propulsion engine. But the magna coils aren't giving me as much of a boost as they should. Could you take a look? "

"Sure."

Ah, technology! One of the few things Beetle didn't panic at. He holds his hands out for the Boots.

"I'll have them back by the end of the day with a full list of things you can do to increase max lift."

just take them away why don't you... oh well, he seemed to know what he was doing. " So what are you doing first? " ben asked.

Beetle took a look at his watch. "I am.......late for class, actually. Au revoir, I shall see you later." Giving a slight nod, Beetle headed for class. This would be fun. Or horribly dull, whichever.

Ben checked a wall clock. Crap, that late already? Ben started speed walking to his class but he slowed down to ask beetle. " Hey what room are you in, 110? "

Beetle checked his schedule. "I...think so? Yes. Yes I do. Er, whats 110?"

Beetle made a mental note: Get someone to examine this gosh darned schedule, as it made no sense.

" Oh its how the struggle of weapons and controversy their Meisters affected world politics and history. " Said ben picking up the pase.

Huh. That was the right class, according to his schedule.

"Yes, that does sound like the correct class. Very well, to class and such!"

Beetle followed behind. Seeing as how he didn't have a clue where this class was. Second note, buy a map.

I was three hours late to my first class because eventually I just tried them all until I found one that didn't kick me out. But if your in one ten for first period then you have science. " Ben stood by a door to a classroom resembling a lab. " Right here sir. "
