| I vote for androgynous.
...oh wait, that's not an option. Oh well.
Maybe if I just vote for boy and hope for a tie... |

| Let me have my hopes.
I'm still not entirely sure WHY Chrona needs a definitive gender in the first place. It's part of her character and all that. |

| Because I need a pronoun to use in place of 'his/her' and 'Crona' all the time! |

| You can keep switching that or just keep calling hir with "it".
It's not even certain if s/he HAS a gender in the first place. Considering her mother, I wouldn't be surprised. |

| In volume 4, right before his death, a victim of Cronas says "He has a sword!", in the manga. Also, in the anime, Crona is referred to as "he". In volume 4, on the Nidhogg, Liz says something like "Did we hit him?". In the anime, season 3 episode 12 "Asura's Temptation - The Big Man's Uncontrollable Irritation?" When Medusa and Eruka Frog are talking about Crona and calls him a "he". Eruka Frog says "He looked pretty shaken up."
Another important factor is from volume 2 in the manga, Crona says "But... I don't know how to deal with girls..." Which shows his uncomfortable state around girls, because they are the opposite gender and might also be regarding attractions.

Unlike English, Japanese has more leeway with pronouns, especially with ones regarding gender, which is why Crona is usually referred to with rather neutral ones. It gets awkward if you try to do that in English*, so translators have, in that regard, decided to stick with using "he". In proper language, one is supposed to assume male when they don't know the gender. This does not mean that it's a reliable source of information, so stop using examples from the translated lines. The fact that s/he doesn't know how to deal with girls doesn't say much either, as s/he doesn't really know how to deal with ANYTHING. Personally, if I were forced to choose one or the other (which seems to be so in this situation), it's probably a she. Hit physical appearance (clothes included) suggests so. There's also the fact that Thompson sisters offer some help in buying hir some clothes at some point, which would make more sense if s/he was a girl. |

Okay we know that english sub and dub aren't the same since each language is different. The thompson sisters wouldn't be a good source since they are Death The Kidd's weapons. He has ocd of symmetry and they most likely never get to share that bond with him. Another thing is after meeting Crona and getting to know him better, his weapon lifted up Maka's skirt, which made him blush a bit. Yeah I know, cause of embarrassment, but if you think about it Crona would have done something else. Also, some people still called him "he".Crona isn't wearing a dress people! It's just a really long tunic like Link off of Zelda. He has a male voice, no long eye lashes and he's flat chested. Crona is just a very wimpy kid because of how MEdusa treated him growing up! For crying out loud the woman made him kill a black dragon </3 So those are my reason of why crona is a boy... |

Yes she does, but what would she know since she is an evil witch and didn't care about him |

There's also the fact that Thompson sisters offer some help in buying hir some clothes at some point, which would make more sense if s/he was a girl. Here is a list of some other stuff that is proof. This does not include my previous posts: -Uses "boku", a Japanese word for "I" that is normally used by males. Females can use it too, but are /usually/ more of the outspoken, tomboyish type. And no, Crona could not have learned "boku" from Ragnarok because he uses "ore," not "boku." -Eyes look more like how male eyes are drawn rather than female, although this could just be to make him look more tired. -Despite the female voice actor, Crona still sounds boy-ish /most/ of the time. -Crona says he "Doesn't know how to deal with talking to girls" and then blushes. He also blushes quite a bit when he's around Maka. Could just be shyness, I guess. -In episode 31, Crona wears male formal wear while all of the girls wear dresses. -Studies show that male children who are raised by abusive mothers will become weak and submissive like Crona, whereas females usually become hateful and resentful. But once again, this is anime we're talking about, so it could be different. -And finally, the most definitive piece of evidence I can think of, and the fact that makes me think that Crona is very likely male, is this: Witches can clearly only be female, so if Crona were really Medusa's daughter, she would be a witch too. It's clear that Crona is not a witch at all though because not only would it have been mentioned, but it specifically was stated that he /isn't/ a witch. In episode 12, when Medusa is at that witches meeting thing at the beginning, she says to Eruka, "I'm not the only one who brought non-witches." The only think I can think of that could contradict this evidence is either a plot hole or that there really is some logical reason for Crona being female, but not being a witch. |
