Familiar Faces [Arc and I, Private]

Taking a sip of her own shake, she sat back a bit and glanced around the diner. "Kinda figured I'd have more to say, but life's been boring since then. Been locked in Death City since I was kicked outta my foster home." She stated, falling silent again. "Got told I was gifted. That was cool... guess it was more like; *You're wasting your gift.*, though."

"I've not been up to all that much, either," Kyoko said. She somehow thought that Brandi's brand of boring was a little different than her own, but that would be a digression. "I guess it's your athletic ability that they're praising as a gift, huh?"

"I guess. They say I could prolly made a death scythe, if I applied myself better. Whatever that means." She responded, moving her shake over to make room for the food the man was now bringing over. It seemed to take a moment before something registered. "Hey, you didn't know I'd be here, but you came anyway." She stated, as though this was news to her.

"It means hunting. Lots," Kyoko said, getting her spare shake out of the way. She was holding onto the other one, still, sipping at it whenever she wasn't actually talking. "Oh, I've always wanted to come to the DWMA. Them calling me for me specifically was my ticket to get away from Ma' and come here. I'm glad it's you I found, though."

Brandi, seeming satisfied with this response, popped a fry into her mouth. Kyoko had wanted to come of her own accord. So there was something she wanted from the school, be it a getaway or something more. Brandi would have to figure that out later, but for now she'd just focus on getting Kyoko up to mischief with her. "Speakin' of hunting, think they'll let ya borrow me, or they just gunna keep us both on watch?" She asked, hoping it'd be the former.

Kyoko set her milkshake aside, if a little hesitantly, and started setting out her food in some sort of layout that suited her better. "We're partners, now, so they better let us hunt," she said, picking up her burger and turning it upside down. "I'm looking to become a Death Scythe myself, at some point, now that I'm here."

So Kyoko did have a goal. She wanted to get stronger. That shouldn't be a problem for Brandi. Though, she had only ever been in one REAL hunt, and it was for a small fry no less. "Sounds like a plan." Brandi responded casually. "We just kill about a hundred of 'em and then find a witch. Should be cake." She didn't seem to comprehend why it would be so hard, or why there were few Death Scythes in the academy. Blissfully unaware, she bit into her burger.

"Ninety-nine, and it's not that simple, but yes, it's a plan," Kyoko said, finally biting into her food after doing so. It made sense that it tasted good, it'd be a damn shame if a burger place messed up a burger. Kyoko was enjoying it and it showed.

Brandi was glad her friend seemed to enjoy the burger. She came here a lot, so it'd be a shame if Kyoko didn't like it. "Then we'll start soon." Brandi noted between mouthfuls. As she was about to take another bite, something seemed to come to her. "Oh, yeah, I guess I can smell souls or somethin'? I kinda tuned out when it was explained to me, but I guess most people can't smell when a Kishin Egg is close?"

Kyoko was a little surprised to hear Brandi say that that she could smell souls of all things. Kyoko had done plenty enough studying on her own to know the basics, but this wasn't the basics. "I... I thought it was a seeing or general sensing sort of thing for most meisters that have the ability to perceive souls..." she said, after swallowing down what she happened to have in her mouth. "That's useful, though," she then added.

"Somethin' somethin', strongest sense, somethin' somethin', not developed yet..." Brandi said, trying to remember the lecture she zoned out on from the teacher that had escorted her on her first mission. "I missed a lotta the small details, but I guess I'll get better at it eventually?"

"I get the gist," Kyoko said, not quite knowledgeable enough to really get that her perception isn't all that good; or that Brandi's sense of smell was apparently the opposite of that. Kyoko wondered if she should have taken a shower after her journey... That strange thought aside, she shrugged. "I don't know how it works, exactly, but, maybe? You'd have to practice, if it's anything like anything else."

Brandi gave a small snicker. "I'll put that right next to learnin' to fight with a chainsaw. I wonder if the professor has a chainsaw I can borrow..." Despite the joking tone, the second sentence sounded alarmingly serious. With that thought in mind, Brandi returned to finishing her meal, excited of what was to come.

"Don't bother, because my weapon form isn't really like a normal chainsaw," Kyoko said, mouth half full, trying to put a stop to that thought, even though really, she was similar enough. It'd be an issue with Brandi started swinging a proper chainsaw around, though. "Besides, you'll have me to train with. And those aren't the only things, either."

Brandi knocked back the last of her burger. "That's true. We can hit the trainin' grounds up some time. What else is there, though? Hunt 'nd kill." She questioned, letting the notion go as she washed the last of her food down with her milkshake.

Kyoko looked at Brandi out of the corner of her eye and sighed, shaking her head a little. Explaining wasn't going to work, so she wasn't going to bother for now. She'd think of something later. Right now, finishing her burger was a priority, though even despite the conversation she was almost done.

Brandi yawned once she finished her food. "So uh... What now? Wanna see the Professor's place?" She asked, not entirely sure what to do from here. At the very least they could play games or watch a movie there. It was more comfortable than sitting in a diner.

"Oh, sure, yeah," Kyoko said, still eating her fries but more or less done discounting the yet untouched second milkshake. That was fine to go, though. Getting to know where Brandi was living was important. She quickly finished up the rest of the first shake and downed the remainder of her fries in record time before getting up to go and pay... However much it was that the meal cost. She didn't think to ask beforehand.

Brandi payed and left her tip, then stood and stretched. "Cool. I doubt he's home right now, so it'll be just us for now." She added, grabbing her things and checking her phone. It wasn't that late yet, so the Professor was probably still being a nerd at the school.

Once Kyoko was done with the transaction she went back to the table to grab her other milkshake. She lifted it up to her mouth with both hands, rather how a child might have done so, and took a big drag through the straw at the top. "Lead the way, then," she said, gesturing towards the door, "So, what kinda guy is this Professor? What's he do"

Slinging her bag over her shoulder again, she scratched her cheek in thought. "Kinda a nerd? He teaches history to the younger kids. Drinks sometimes, mostly just watches TV when he's home." She responded, describing what she knew about the guy. He wasn't all that interesting a guy, in her opinion. Honestly he was kinda boring? He was nice though, she had to give him that at least.

"Sounds like he hasn't made all that much of an impression on you despite being your guardian, huh?" Kyoko asked the question, even if it was a rhetorical one. With that answer, she didn't think the subject of the Professor would yield much in the way of conversation as they went on their way.

"We don't talk much. Told me what I gotta do to live in his house and we just do our own thing." She responded, pushing her way out of the place and heading for home. "I don't get much money, plus I ain't allowed to live on my own til the school says so, or I'd leave"

"Sounds lonely," Kyoko said. It reminded her that she was going to be living alone for the time being, which was a similarly lonely situation. Perhaps she shouldn't have gone straight for getting her own little apartment at the first opportunity and gone for the dorms... Even if she didn't have to pay for living costs herself either way. She sighed quietly as she followed Brandi.

Brandi gave a shrug. "Can be. Spend a lot of time lookin' at the wall. One of the few people who doesn't make me wanna break his arm, though. Not as annoyin' as most teachers." She glanced back at Kyoko. "Don't expect too much from him, though. He's kinda flimsy. Not someone who'll have your back if shit got rough." She added as they approached an apartment building.
