Ezekiel sat on the edge of a lone fountain in a modest square. The location was really not that far from the main shopping centers, but this particular square was mainly left alone since it had little to offer in the glamorous shopping department. Right now, not a soul was in sight. Night had dawned on the city and the moon with its creepy smile hung grim in the midnight-blue sky. The 11 year-old sighed, unhappy with himself. He had managed to get himself worked up enough to stop his progress home, cowering near the first fully functioning light he saw. His pale blue eyes searched the darkness, his instincts telling him to be watchful as they always were. A cricket chirped suddenly nearby and the boy nearly fell over into the fountain, but he stopped himself, looking momentarily embarrassed.
He hated being this close to water, but the light that was placed inside the fountain was the only thing that kept him from being blinded in the dark. The fountain sprayed in a beautiful torrent, lit by the high-powered light that poked out the base of an artificial rock in the water. It was completely unaware of the young meister on the rock wall surrounding it, hating its noise and energy. He knew his home wasn't far from here. He wasn't lost, he was only a little afraid of the dark...
