A Brand New Day at a Brand New Place (Beyril and Aesop)

Rosa craned her neck to get a better view of the school before her. She had to take a few steps back just to see the entire building. The teen let out an impressed whistle. The architecture was impressive to say the least and very creative.

Why didn't Mom and Dad ever take us to Death City? She wondered. Rosa was sure they would have had a field day at this place. She snapped a picture of the building with her phone and quickly sent it to her parents with the short message: 'I'm here! So cool! =D'. They'd love that.

The flash caught the girl in front of her carrying a large stack of books off guard. "Gah!" the pretty blonde with the sakura tree tattoo crawling from her back up onto her neck cried before falling backwards on her butt, sending her books flying and one striking her in the head. She rubbed her skull and muttered to herself about gathering more herbs, not really noticing the source of the flash as she readjusted her weapon tag on her shirt and leaned forward to try and gather her books.

It took Rosa a moment to notice the girl who had fallen flat on the hard ground. She shoved her phone back into her pocket and ran over to help. She grabbed for the scattered books and helped straighten them out, dusting them off as she did.

"Ah dang, are you alright?" Rosa asked the girl in concern, "You took a pretty nasty fall. You don't need a doctor, do you?" She intrusively ran her fingers down the back of the girls skull, checking for any bumps or contusions. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary aside from the understandable knot.

Addy looked up, confused, "Where did you come from?" she asked before the flash sunk in, "OH! Oh, don't apologize... it was an accident. And I'm sure I'll be fine. I get startled easily."

"Still, you could have gotten really hurt. I wouldn't want to be charged with manslaughter on my first day. Can you imagine the headlines? 'New Student Kills Girl with Camera Phone'!" Rosa laughed at her morbid humor.

"Anyways, my name's Rosa Fontaine," she held out her hand in greeting, "What's yours?"

Addy took her hand with a more relaxed laugh, "I would be a terrible weapon indeed to have been killed by a camera phone." she teased, shaking Rosa's hand, "I'm Adrastea Arcane. Most people shorten it to Addy."

"Nice to meet you, Addy. You're a weapon? I've never met a weapon before," Rosa grinned, "Um, besides my... Brother." She hesitated at the last word. When she had told Marisol that she'd be enrolling in the DWMA, her sister had requested that she'd be referred to as he. It was kind of weird, but she agreed to it.

She nodded along, "I'm a quarterstaff, technically..."

"That's so cool!" Rosa clasped her hands together, "You mean like the ones ninjas use in action movies?"

Addy blushed sheepishly, "Sort of... But not really. I-uh... I'm almost more like a giant wand..."

"Really?" Rosa perked up, "That actually sounds a lot cooler. How does it, or I should I say you work?" She grinned and leaned in with interest, folding her arms behind her back.

"It... it depends on the meister. Their soul's wavelengths affect the spells in different ways with their moods. Anger causes destructive spells, sorrow causes necromancy, joy brings life and healing..." she blushed, "I'm sorry, I'm boring you aren't I?"

"Not at all!" Rosa reassured the girl, "I come from a family of tourists so wanting to learn new things sort of comes naturally to me. To be honest, you're one of the most interesting kinds of weapons I've heard about. I hear it's not that common for weapons to be more than just your average bash and slash." She pantomimed a punching and cutting motion with her hand.

Addy laughed into her hand, "Would you like to try..?"

"What? Like for seriously?" Rosa grinned, "That would be awesome!" She rocked back and forth on her heels like an excited schoolgirl, which she technically was.

Addy set her books on the stairs, clearing her throat as she transformed into a tall staff, gnarled and twisted like an ancient tree.

Rosa's fingers tingled with excitement as she gripped the staff. One hand near the top and the other near the bottom. She kept the staff pointed towards the empty sky, even if she wasn't angry she didn't want to accidentally crush something, or worse, someone.

Her touch ignited the staff with light. The hollow cage-like formation at the top seemed filled with colors and brightness.

Rosa watched in awe as the end of the twisted branch sparked with color and light. What did she want to see? Addy had told her that the magic depended on the meister. She closed her eyes, what do I want to see? The memory of the view when she climbed a mountain entered her mind, the first time she saw the Eiffel Tower, seeing Marisol smile as she wore her bridesmaid dress at their brother's wedding.

"I want to see," Rosa slowly opened her eyes, "Something... Beautiful."

The staff ignited in green light, plants and trees cracking through the pavement and breaking apart stone to soak up the sunshine. A great willow blossomed overhead, and the tiny leaves blew with the wind to surround her in a sort of dance of nature. Birds seemed to be constructed and summoned from the brink of nothingness, and a world of her own imaginings took shape and life around her.

Rosa nearly dropped the weapon as the small patch of forestry erupted from the ground. She ran over to the willow tree and bounded up the trunk. With one hand grasping the weapon and the other a tree branch, she pulled herself up the tree. Make sure the branch was sturdy, she sat down to admire the view.

"You're amazing," she sighed, "Did you know that?"

Addy blushed, the end of the staff's light turning pink, "I... I uh, thank you..."

"This is probably a futile question, but I want to ask anyway," Rosa began, "But do you have a meister?" A weapon of this caliber probably already did have a meister, but it didn't hurt to make sure. Just in case.

She shifted back, the spell not wavering as she took her human form, "No, I don't. I'm new here."

Rosa straightened up, "Oh? That's great! You're new. I'm new. Why don't we be new together as weapon and meister?" Her legs dangled freely over the branch, swinging back and forth.
