Character Sheet & Creation Rules

Table of Contents (Use Ctrl + F and type the section name to skip straight to it)
1.) Approval and Character Usage
2.) Character Creation and Count Limits
3.) Template
4.) Dual Sheets
5.) Canon Characters
6.) CS Titles
7.) Character Ripping
8.) Aging
9.) Partners
10.) Madness Strand
11.) Descriptor Sections
12.) Soul Counts
13.) OP Abilities/Nerf This!
14.) Ability Acquirement and Advancement
15.) Resonance Chains
16.) Ability Chains
17.) Additions Requiring Admin Approval
18.) Have You Read the Rules?

  1. Approval and Character Usage: All characters MUST be (Accepted) and moved by Staff before being used in ANY roleplays. Unapproved characters stay in WIP! (See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] #1) Once a character has been accepted, they count towards their creator's character count.
  2. Character Creation and Count Limits: For their first week, new users have a character limit of 5, where they may only make Meisters, Weapons, Kishin Eggs, and Dark Weapons. After that week is over, their cap raises to 7 and Clowns, NPCs (placed under the "Other" category) Monsters, Enchanters, Witches/Sorcerers (with a requirement for admin approval of stronger characters), and Meister Teachers are unlocked. Once the account is a month old and the user has proven their writing skills, the cap gets raised to the standard 10 and they are able to make Death Scythes, Hunter's Axes, and "Other" characters. Death Scythes require an explanation of how they reached their leveled status, and must specifically be approved by administration. As general users continue to grow and prove themselves, they work their way to a final cap of 15 characters. Staff caps vary. Characters CAN NOT start out as Demon Blades, Eibon's Grimoires, or Kishins, and must be leveled to that point IC. Legendary Blades, Shinigami, and Immortal Clan members are not allowed. Applications for characters higher than the first tier MUST be of a higher caliber, indicating well thought out characters. Breaking this rule can result in On Hold or Rejected Characters.
01JAN2018: Creating an account and waiting "x" amount of time before making a character of a higher tier than 1, without being active on the account in any way other than making character sheets, is not allowed.
  3. Template: Use the CS code at the bottom of each [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for your respective CS. Character sheets must be centered and in paragraph format. Images and miscallanies information are not required and can be removed. As long as it follows the rules, any section can be added to the CS or renamed, as desired. Other than the two sections already mentioned, every section must be filled out for every character; sections are placed on templates for a reason.
  4. Dual Sheets: Two characters of the same class may go on the same sheet if they are siblings.
  5. Canon Characters: General users may not use the canon characters, their images, personalities, or history. If you want to do something similiar then you must acquire Admin permission. This also means that, with the exception of using the Kishin Asura's Rising as a time reference point or listing one as their crush, you may not so much as MENTION a Canon Character in the sheet. If this rule is broken in any way, you will be warned and the character will be rejected.
  6. CS Titles: A CS title may ONLY include tags from the Masterlist (see below) and the name of the character. The name can be their real/original name or their Liberal Naming Policy name.
  7. Character Ripping: Face and/or partial name claims of characters from other universes, anime or otherwise, are allowed. However, directly ripping off a character will result in a character rejection.
  8. Aging: Users are required to age their characters IRL yearly. This does not affect the outward appearance of characters such as Witches/Sorcerers, but most other characters are affected.
  9. Partners: We recommend, but do not require that you make a character and pair up with someone else's weapon or meister. If the character does not have a partner, put "None" or "N/A."
  10. Madness Strand: If your character has any form of madness, it's type gets listed here; if your character is a KE, Kishin, Dark Weapon, Demon Blade, or eats innocent souls AT ALL, this section MUST be filled out by the time they've consumed their 11th soul.
16JAN2018, Enchanter's Note: any madness the Enchanter has will be infused into all of their creations.
  11. Descriptor Sections: All descriptor sections (forms, appearance, personality, and history) must be a minimum of a 100 word paragraph, each. For dual character sheets, this is doubled (200 words per section, total, or 100 each per char) except for history at a minimum requirement of 150. There are various details that may not be included in the character sheet and will be mentioned in the "sample character sheet" outlined in the fourthpost (wip).
  12. Soul Counts: Soul consuming characters MUST have their counts (and all related threads) listed and kept up to date on their character sheet (thread). The maximum number of souls a standard character can start with is 20. For a guide to Soul Consumption, click here.
  13. OP Abilities/Nerf This!: As stated in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] #2, Godmodding/Powerplaying, Bunnying, Metagaming, and Retconning are not allowed. No character may: have abilities that break this rule, start off with 10 or more abilities, or have an autohit or one-shot kill ability ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] #2 and #3).
  14. Ability Acquirement and Advancement: Acquirement and advancement methods must be listed for abilities. For weapons and kishin eggs, this means: a, how many souls before an ability is unlocked; and b, how many souls can be put into an ability to make it more powerful. For meisters, monsters, and magic users, abilities are advanced through training, and links must be posted on the CS of threads that helped to do this. Note that Enchanters, if also Witches/Sorcerers, are limited to three spellsets: Enchanting, Familiar/Animal Magic, and one other one. Non-witches/sorcerers require Enchanter's Gloves for enchanting.
  15. Resonance Chains: Resonance chains can consist of no more than 6 tiers, though 4 is preferable. On this note, a partnered pair may not achieve a resonance that is of a higher tier than the weapon possesses souls for.
    Three-Tier Chain- Tier One = 1 Soul; Tier Two = 33; Tier Three = 66
Four-Tier Chain- Tier One =1 Soul; Tier Two = 25 Souls; Tier Three = 50 Souls; Tier Four = 75 Souls.
Five-Tier Chain- Tier One =1 Soul; Tier Two = 20 Souls; Tier Three = 40 Souls; Tier Four = 60 Souls; Tier Five = 80 Souls.
    Six-Tier Chain- Tier One = 1 Souls; Tier Two = 17; Tier Three = 35; Tier Four = 52; Tier Five = 69; Tier Six = 85
  16. Ability Chains: No more than ten ability chains are allowed and no ability chain may have more than ten abilities, advancements, or tiers. (For example: No character can have 11 Black Blood abilities.)
  17. Additions Requiring Admin Approval: The following require Admin approval to avoid character rejection, if included: Cybernetics/Robotics, Mixed/Multiple/Patchwork Soul(s), Witch/Sorcerery Ancestry (without being one themself), Zombies, Hybrids (NO WEAPON/MEISTER), Liches, Soulweavers, Framework Weapons, and Autonomy.
  18. Have You Read the Rules?: To demonstrate that you have read the rules, piece together a Soul Eater quote with the fragments found at the bottom of the Rules pages. The solution is the answer to the rules question found at the bottom of the character sheet. For your first character, and the first character you make after a major rule update, answer the question correctly to get approved. Every OC after can have any answer.

Character Sheet & Creation Rules Empty

Character Sheet Tags!

What are these, you might ask; they are the tags in parentheses placed in the title of character sheets to indicate the sheet's status, both for Members and Staff alike. Listed below are all of the current tags for Character Sheets.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WIP: Found in Character Creation sections only, this tag is to be put on any incomplete character sheets. Upon completion, it is replaced with...

Done/Finished/Complete, etc.: Placed on Character Sheets that are waiting to be graded, this is the quickest indicator that a sheet needs to be checked. This tag is removed upon acceptance.

Accepted: This tag is used for characters that have been accepted but have not, for one reason or another, been moved; it's a quick reference to Staff what characters need to be moved over, when they do clean-ups. As soon as the character has been accepted, they count towards the user's character count.

Updated/Pending Review: Used only for already Accepted characters, these tags mean that changes have been made to the sheet that make it require another review/grading by staff members, before the changes can be used. Unless Rejected or put on Hold/Suspension, these characters still count towards the user's count.

Rejected: A Staff Only Tag, this indicates that the character in question cannot, and will not, be accepted. Usually, this means that the character is a rip-off of another, be it from SERP, canon, or another source. These characters do not affect the owner's count. This tag is not to be removed.

Suspended/On Hold: Another Staff Only Tag, this means that the character has the potential to be used, but the user must meet certain criteria before this can occur. Usually, this means that the character needs to be nerfed, in some way, shape, or form. This tag is only to be removed by an Admin. These characters no longer count towards the user's count.

Injured: Used for characters that have been severely injured/incapacitated, the user of the character may add this tag to a character's sheet if they are considering Dropping or killing the character, or moving it over to NPC. These characters only count towards a user's character account if they are re-instated from pseudo-NPC status.

Missing: This tag is used for characters whose owners have left or are leaving the site, until their account has been deleted, or for the same reasons as the Injured tag. Unless re-instated, these characters do not count towards the user's character count, but also cannot be used otherwise.

Dead/Deceased: The most self-explanatory tag, it means that the character has died. This can be stated in the sheet/thread for the sheet, but the tag is how the Staff knows to move it to the proper Graveyard. They do not count towards a user's character count.

Abandoned: A tag added only by the original owner of a character, this means that they plan on (though still might not) dropping the character, and are offering it up to other members to adopt it. As soon as they are put up for adoption, they are no longer part of the user's count, so long as the owner is not roleplaying them.

Adopted: This works in tangent with all other tags, and is not to be removed, no matter the status of the character; other tags are added, in addition to this one, to the sheet's title. These characters have been adopted, upon approval of the original owner, and initially containing the original sheet's coding. Edits to this character must first be approved by the original owner before a Staff will review it. The user's character account for these characters depends on their secondary tag.

Dropped: This tag is used for characters whom the user no longer wishes to use/have. These characters may or may not have been previously listed as Injured or Missing, or may have simply been put up for adoption. Once a character has this tag, it can no longer be adopted. Unless otherwise stated on the sheet, Dropped characters are treated, In-Character, as Missing.

NPC: These characters are supports for In-Character plots, be they personal or site-wide. They also include Canon Characters (made only by staff members). Who can play these characters is listed in their sheets. These characters cannot be Dropped, Abandoned, or Adopted, and affect no one's character count.

Inactive: Although the Dead and Adopted/Abandoned tags are to be left in the title with this one, it overrides all other tags/statuses of a character. Characters are NOT considered Inactive unless the user account the sheet is attached to has been deleted, rendering the topic creator listed as "Guest." All Inactive characters are Considered Missing, if alive before deactivation, or Dead, if they were dead before deactivation. Unless a user account can prove ownership of an Inactive character, these sheets cannot be touched.

Edited: The staff is more than well aware that changes need to be made to characters from time-to-time. Certain, minor changes are of no issue: partner, relationship status, age, appearance (if not changed because of powers/abilities or soul consumption),  minor personality alterations, minor edits to history, and other misc details. However, more drastic changes, including things such as ability changes (including resonance charts), must be approved. This tag let's the staff know that such changes have been made. These changes may not be referenced in-thread until the entire CS has been re-approved by a staff member.

Revamped: This is used for characters that have been changed so drastically that an entire new character sheet has been made. The character itself is the same person, however, through the course of roleplaying, they have changed so drastically that changing the original sheet would take more effort than making an entirely new one. It is requested that a link to the original sheet be linked in the Revamp. Any changes made between the original sheet and the revamp may not be used in-thread until the revamped sheet has been approved. In fact, it's preferred that the character be put on hold, from  the event that causes the changes and the re-approval.

Meister Stars

The following is the criteria for Meister stars on SERP:

No Stars imply that the meister has not undergone any missions or is a NOT student (which has it's own tag, like the meister/weapon ones).

1 Star: The meister has been on a successful mission that involved combat.

2 Star: The meister has graduated from the DWMA or has displayed exemplary skill or unique talents and has been recognized by a teacher.

3 Star: The meister has successfully forged their weapon partner into a Death Scythe through hard work and determination.

Sample Character Sheet/Additional Info

Twins sharing the same character class (both weapons) can go on one sheet! Also, the title for character sheets should only include the name(s) of the character(s) and the approved tags; do not make your sheet title a sentence.

Character Sheet & Creation Rules XBSw5mV

Aside from the "No Character Ripping" rule, character names can be anything!

Gender/Sex:
We're pretty open-minded here on SERP. Your character can have any gender; for Witches/Sorcerers, you can put "Witch" or "Sorcerer" here if you feel like it.

Age:
Do not be too extreme on either end of the spectrum for this. Characters are to be aged yearly IRL. A year does not affect a Witch/Sorcerer's outward appearance, but it does affect those of more mortal characters.

Secondary Class: This section replaces the Species section on Enchanter's templates/sheets. It is used to explain what other "class" a character is, in addition to being an Enchanter. For example, Giriko is both an Enchanter (specifically, a Golemancer) and a weapon (likely a Dark Weapon, if not a Demon Blade). Enchanters cannot be: monsters, animals, or patchwork soul creatures.

Species:
Or Class, depending; Meister, Weapon, Witch/Sorcerer, Monster Subtype (Like, say, a werewolf), etc etc etc This is not on every sheet.

Love Interest:
Crushes, Significant Other, Boyfriend/Girlfriend, Partner (and feel free to rename the section) go here. You do not need anyone's permission to set a character's crush as someone else's character.

Orientation (Sexual/Romantic):
Whatever they're attracted to!

Weapon/Meister:
For Weapons, this is their meister; for meisters, this includes what weapon partner(s) they have. The normal limit is one weapon at a time, two if the weapons are related. For weapons, autonomy is rare and requires in-character training and staff approval. Multiple weapon forms ARE NOT ALLOWED. There is no requirement for you to partner with a character belonging to another user, but we do encourage it. Bare in mind that Utility Meisters (types one and two being the only existing) require specific approval for use. Type 1 is able to resonate with two Weapons at the same time and Type 2 can resonate with two or more different Weapons. This means that a Type 2 can not only resonate with two different weapons, but can wield different types of weapons (i.e. scythes and swords) as well, whereas a typical meister can successfully wield only one type of weapon.

Non-human weapons belong in the "other" category. Weapon hybrids (i.e. monster, meister, witch/sorcerer) do not exist. Note that weapons can only wield other weapons via the Bond which requires a blood relation between the two parties involved. Weapons cannot resonate as a Bond pair.
Earth Shamans:

Madness Strand:
If your character has any form of madness, its type gets listed here; if your character is a KE, Kishin, Dark Weapon, Demon Blade, or eats innocent souls AT ALL, this section MUST be filled out by the time they've consumed their 11th soul, regardless of the mix of souls (i.e. if they have 1 innocent soul but the other 9 are KE, it must still be listed). Characters that have Black Blood have the Madness of Black Blood in addition to their own madness.

Enchanter Subsect: Obviously specific to enchanters, this includes the simple question of whether they are a Golemancer or a Toolmaker.

Golem(s)/Magical Tools: What sort of golems, if any, do they make? For example, the Golemancers of Loew Village made golems out of earth/clay, designed to obey their creators and perform basic tasks/follow basic commands without communicating, themselves. Golems are bound to the person whose soul was used to create them. The limits for Golem creation, by size, are as follows: 1 Large Golem (approx. twice the size of a human, ~12ft/~3.66M), 3 Medium Golems (at approximately the size of a human), or 5 Small (shorter than an adult human). Ask for more menial things or if you have any specific requests beyond this, for specific admin approval. You cannot make both Tools and Golems, and the limits listed above are golems made using the Enchanter's soul/wavelength; they can do commissions for other characters, which will not count towards their own golem limits. For examples of Tiny Golems, used for menial commissions, see [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] For Toolmakers, what magical tools have they made/do they specialize in? These also have limits to how many things can be infused at any given time, but the limit for these will be judged on a case-by-case basis.

Materials Used: Enchanters are restricted on what materials they may use for enchanting. For example, flesh golems are not allowed. Additionally, Enchanters must specialize, as it takes so much work to make their creations. The Loew Village Enchanters, for example, used "earth" (most likely clay). Witch/Sorcerer Enchanters are able to use more complex materials than non-magical beings. Remember, if you wish to be able to use multiple kinds of materials, the phrase, "jack of all  trades, master of none."

Other Form(s):
This is a detail section, which requires a minimum of a 100 word paragraph (two paragraphs for two characters). For witches/sorcerers, this is their animal form/familiar. For weapons, it is their weapon form. For monsters, it's whatever it can transform into besides its basic appearance.

Appearance:
Another detail section (requiring 100(+) words, two paragraphs for two characters), this is where you describe a character's physical appearance, from their basic body descriptions to their outfits/day-to-day clothing. Do not get into lewd details.

Personality:
More 100 or more word descriptions go here (unless there's two characters, then it's two paragraphs!)! This is where you can talk about the character's personality, as well as any hobbies, habits, or mannerisms that they may have. Likes and dislikes may also go here and may be listed in a list or table format, if desired (if not in a paragraph, however, they do not count towards word count).

History:
This is the last of the section to require a 100 word paragraph, minimum, description, unless there are two characters, in which case the minimum word count is 150. Canon characters may NOT be referenced here, with the exception of the Asura Uprising being used as a timeline reference. Do not get graphic/explicit in a character's history (especially without a warning). Any Enchanter must explain, here, how they obtained their Enchanter's Gloves (for non-witches/sorcerers) and their training.

Soul Count (If Applicable): This section is a required tally of all souls consumed by the character, even if they've only had one. Threads that they gained these souls from should be listed somewhere on the sheet or the thread that the sheet is attached to. The MAXIMUM number of souls standard characters can have starting out is 20; obviously, Death Scythes have 100 but cannot consume any beyond this number.

Miscellaneous: Anything additional can go in this section, including pets, soul descriptions, or really any other character details that don't quite fit anywhere else! You may also add sections for anything you feel deserves its own, if you so wish it.

Abilities: Abilities may or may not be gained naturally, either being something inherited via genetics, or something that came about as a result of experimentation, training/teaching, or soul consumption, etc. Include spells (reasonably) if applicable. Witches/Sorcerers do not require Enchanter's gloves to enchant things, but instead specialized training. This training leaves them with only their Familiar (Animal) Magic, Enchanting, and one other spellset; Enchanting is especially effective with Object magics.

Ability/SpellDescriptionSouls/Achieved By
Each ability should have a name...And a description. Descriptions for abilities do NOT have a minimum or maximum word requirement. Instead, they must include more specific details on how the abilities are gained/advanced, what the abilities do, and what the limitations/nerfs of them entail.# of souls
Name of Ability 2More descriptions! Abilities can be taught to and learned by other OCs, gained from training or experience, or can be something "inherent" for the character, such as a witches'/sorcerer's familiar spellset (like night vision for nocturnal familiars).Training
Name of Ability 3Description of abilityTaught by
Name of Ability 4Description of ability#

Weaknesses: Weaknesses are not uniform, even amongst individual species. Please put your character's weaknesses here. The more powerful a character is, the more necessary weaknesses are. As it stands, the weakness section is currently only standard on Monster & Other sheets.

Have You Read the Rules?
"The answer to this question can be found scattered throughout the rules sections. Piece it together to form a quote from the series. Once you've answered this question correctly in at least one sheet, any sheets you make afterwards may have anything put here as an answer."
